The amount cut out of the bumper has to be very carefully made because if you cut too much then instead of the air passing through the intercooler it will pass around the intercooler through the gap between the intercooler and the bumper. A large gap here can also impact on the effectiveness of the coolant radiator resulting in higher coolant temperature. Too smal a gap can result in the bumper not fitting correctly and also the bumper can rub on the intercooler and cause damage.
