The most powerful mouthful to get your head around is the Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type-UK with Prodrive Performance Upgrade Package, the PPP is extra and one of the few performance upgrades that you can carry out without invalidating your warranty, WRX as in World Rally, a badge applied to the turbocharged sporty Scoobies. STi as in Subaru Technica International, all STi models now come with a 265bhp engine, a six-speed gearbox, inverted suspension struts, Brembo brakes, front and rear limited-slip differentials, a faster steering rack, satellite tracking and a full body kit with high-rise spoiler.

Subaru Performance upgrades?  Get a revised, remapped ECU, high-flow sport catalyst and sports exhaust silencer and lift the power to around 300bhp. Acceleration 0-60mph is down to 4.6 seconds (compared to the 'standard' STi's 5.2 seconds), top speed up to over 155mph and torque increased to 299lb ft from 253lb ft, giving improved pull in all six gears and it is still cheaper than the latest 300bhp Evo VIII MR FQ-300 and the MR FQ-330. A larger turbo, bigger injectors, up-rated fuel pump and regulator, port the headers and another remap and push the bhp to around 400 (are you drooling yet?).

Any Subaru Impreza attracts the attention of every Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa driving, baseball-capped boy in the vicinity, and an STi-badged one that has all comers lining up to try and take you on at the traffic lights! Poor fops, they don't know what they are taking on when they challenge a performance upgraded Subaru.
